Asylum |
| Asylum is the biggest issue after crime. In the 2001 Election, the three main parties stopped all discussion of this problem. When canvassing on people's doorsteps, they told voters they were "just imagining there was a problem". Now at last in 2005, these same politicians have woken up and noticed, what the rest of us have been telling them for the past twenty years. |
"Asylum" means refuge; it was invented to let in small groups of people who were genuinely being persecuted: Like the Jews escaping from Nazi Germany; Hungarians fleeing from communism in 1956; and Asians escaping from Idi Amin's Uganda in the 1970s. The numbers involved were large - but they came in "waves" - now and again - not all the time. And they arrived through the proper immigration channels.
Today's "Asylum seekers" are different. They are mostly poor people who want to come here to make a better life for themselves. What's wrong with that? Nothing - if they would just tell the truth ! Instead of coming openly through our front door, they sneak in hidden in lorries; rip up all their documents (so no-one can prove where they really come from) - then just drop in to the nearest police station, where the magic words "I claim political asylum" have now replaced "Abra-cadabra" and "Open Sesame" as the key to a raft of freebies: accommodation, food, and (very expensive) legal aid. (Which we all pay for). "Human Rights" lawyers say that these applicants don't need to show any proof of "persecution" - all they need is to WANT to come here; and to be able to plonk themselves down on our shores. In China alone there are believed to be at least 50 million people who want to come and live here (about 4% of their population). So in theory, if this mass of people could manage to get transport here - they would be within their rights to apply; even though they would then outnumber our existing population. New Labour' Asylum "policy" is a total shambles. We need a whole new fresh start - a completely different approach. We need the "ONE-YEAR BREATHING-SPACE". That means you stop all NEW applications by "Seekers", for just ONE YEAR. Existing applications would still carry on - just a (temporary) stop on NEW seekers. When they call in at the police station, they would be told politely "Applications are closed for now. Come back in a year's time - or try another country." This would give us time to process the backlog of existing applications. We can try to sort exactly how many there are: who they are, and where they are. for having 'illegitimate' babies, are GENUINE political refugees. We should be inviting them here today." The numbers involved in the future must be TINY - no more than a hundred in any one year. The millions already let in, are too many for our society to absorb. They've also caused a massive rise in two diseases (Hiv-plus virus and T.B.). And they've distorted the 50-50 sex balance in Britain, as most newcomers have been men; this will cause social tensions in the future. I want to see all other "Seekers" re-classified as "MBLS" - Migrants looking for a Better Life on our Shores. They would have to apply using a very strict set of rules: And there's an extra "freebie" that most people don't even know about! Seekers can now, while they're waiting for "processing", even have a vote in our elections. Yes! All you need to get a vote in our general Election, is to have an address here, and ask for a vote. No-one comes to check whether you're entitled to it! (It's now believed that in the 2001 Election, at least 15 marginal seats were decided by the unlawful votes of non-citizens.) Under this government, there's free votes for anyone that asks .). Every day we see the "Burqa" in our shops and on the streets. This is the bizarre costume worn by some muslim women where they are totally concealed in a black cloak - just a little slit for looking out - "Darth Vader with curvy bits" as somebody once said. This obscene headdress has no place in 21st-Century Britain. It's mediaeval. It is NOT decreed in any official version of the Islamic religion. Millions of religious Moslem women, don't wear one, and haven't got one. In many Moslem countries, you never even see it. It's the product of a mentality that hates women. The idea that any woman's face should be hidden like this, is insulting to the dignity of ALL women. But there are other reasons besides this to ban it. It provides an easy disguise, to terrorists and shoplifters; hiding them from CCTV. It's also unhealthy and unsafe - women wearing them, have their field of vision reduced. This could cause accidents to themselves or others. It's disturbing for children. How do I explain to our children, why these ladies are not allowed to reveal their faces? If foreign women want to wear this is their own countries abroad, that's their problem - but in our High-streets we can do without these "faceless wonders." Bin the "Burqa". FAMILIES FIRST Key Policies on Asylum: 1. 1YBS - The "One-Year Breathing-Space", while we sort out the mess. 2. Fast-track entry for genuine political persecutees. 3. Automatic refusal of "In-country" applications, or from anybody who entered clandestinely e.g. hiding in lorries; or from any who self-mutilate to try to get sympathy. 4. Re-classify Seekers as "Migrants looking for a Better Life on our Shores". They must apply remotely, with an annual quota. 5. End the free-for-all in applying for votes - proper checks, to see if applicants are really entitled. |
